Tenure-Track Faculty Positions of Physics
The Department of Physics at National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU) in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, invites applications for several tenure-track faculty positions at all ranks (assistant, associate, and full professor), with an anticipated starting date of August 1, 2027.
NSYSU is one of Taiwan’s six Designated National Research Universities and hosts a national key institution in semiconductor technology. The campus is located on Sizihwan Bay, between Shoushan Mountain and the sea, near the
semiconductor and high-tech industries in southern Taiwan. The Department has active research groups in condensed matter and materials physics, optics and photonics, quantum information, and astrophysics and cosmology.
We particularly welcome applications from candidates specializing in experimental condensed matter physics, which is our highest-priority area in this search. Candidates working in quantum information science, quantum computing, quantum optics, and related areas are also strongly encouraged to apply. Outstanding candidates in other areas of physics, including astrophysics, will receive full consideration, and applications from theoretical, computational, and experimental physicists are all welcome.
We seek candidates who demonstrate the potential to establish an independent and sustainable research program, contribute actively to a collaborative academic environment, and show a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring students. Successful candidates are expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, including the core physics curriculum. As many courses in the Department are taught in English, the ability to teach effectively in English is expected.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in physics or a closely related field by the time of appointment. For applicants at the junior level, postdoctoral research experience, particularly experience at international research institutions, is
preferred.
The Department offers a competitive start-up package, laboratory space for experimental groups, and support for recruiting graduate students and postdoctoral researchers. New faculty may apply for research grants from the
National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) and may be nominated for national talent programs such as the Ministry of Education’s Yushan Young Scholar Program.
Applications should include:
A cover letter including the preferred rank and research area;
● Curriculum vitae, including a complete publication list;
● A statement of research summarizing past accomplishments and future
plans;
● A statement of teaching interests and plans;
● At least three letters of recommendation, sent directly by the referees.
Please email all materials to Ms. Hsu (physaa@mail.nsysu.edu.tw) with the subject line “Faculty Application – [Your Name]”. Referees should send their letters to the same address.
Review of application begins: November 30, 2026, until the positions are filled.
Anticipated starting date: August 1, 2027
